Used Road Glide vs Street Glide: Which Harley Fits You
62 in stock · inspected · free delivery to Louisville & Southern Indiana
The Road Glide and Street Glide are the two Harley baggers riders argue about most. Same basic platform, same bags, same mission. The real difference is the fairing — and how it changes the way each bike feels at speed.
This guide walks through that difference, plus seat height, wind, sound and what you should expect to pay used. The units below are live in-stock Harley touring bikes, each one inspected by our shop and photographed before listing. We're in Clarksville, Indiana, minutes from downtown Louisville over the I-65 bridges, and we deliver free within 150 miles.
The fairing is the whole argument
The Street Glide uses the batwing fairing, mounted to the fork. Turn the bars and the fairing turns with you. It looks classic and keeps the cockpit tight.
The Road Glide uses the sharknose fairing, mounted to the frame. The bars move, the fairing doesn't. That cuts the steering effort and keeps crosswinds and truck wash off the bars. Many riders say a Road Glide feels calmer above 70 mph for exactly this reason.
Wind and handling
- Street Glide: lighter steering feel at parking-lot speeds, more feedback through the bars on windy days. The lower stock windshield puts more air on your helmet, which some riders like.
- Road Glide: more stable in gusts and on long interstate pulls. The dual headlights and wider fairing give it a different presence. Low-speed steering feels heavier at first, then you stop noticing.
Seat height and fit
Both run low seats, roughly 26 to 27 inches laden depending on year and trim. Shorter riders flat-foot either one. The Road Glide cockpit sits a touch farther away because the fairing is on the frame, so taller riders often find it roomier. Sit on both. Five minutes settles it faster than any forum thread.
Sound
Same Milwaukee-Eight or Twin Cam engines across matching years, so stock sound is close. Used examples often come with aftermarket exhaust already fitted — ask us for a walkaround video and we'll start the bike on camera.
Used price ranges
Older Electra Glide and Dyna-era Glides start around $5,900 to $8,000. Clean mid-2010s Street Glides and Road Glides typically run the mid to high teens. Late-model Specials and low-mile 2022–2024 bikes land roughly $19,900 to $28,900. Our current Glide inventory covers that whole spread — browse all Harleys or the full inventory.
Who should buy which
- Street Glide: you ride mostly around town and two-lane roads, you want the classic batwing look, and you like a lighter bar feel.
- Road Glide: you log interstate miles, ride in wind, or want the roomier cockpit.

Questions riders ask
What is the main difference between a Road Glide and a Street Glide?
The fairing. The Street Glide's batwing fairing is mounted to the fork and turns with the bars, while the Road Glide's sharknose fairing is mounted to the frame and stays put. That changes steering feel and how each bike handles wind.
Which is better for long highway trips?
Most riders find the Road Glide more stable at highway speed because the frame-mounted fairing keeps wind forces off the handlebars. The Street Glide still tours well, and plenty of riders prefer its lighter steering feel.
How much does a used Road Glide or Street Glide cost?
Our current Glide-family inventory runs from $5,900 for older models up to $28,900 for late-model, low-mile bikes. Clean mid-2010s examples typically land in the mid to high teens.
Can I see a bike before buying if I can't visit in person?
Yes. Every unit is inspected by our shop and photographed before it is listed, and we'll send a walkaround video on request. Until our Clarksville showroom opens on December 1, 2026, we sell online and remote-only with remote signing.
