Buying in Indiana, Registering in Kentucky: How It Works
175 in stock · inspected · free delivery to Louisville & Southern Indiana
A lot of our buyers live across the river. We sit in Clarksville, Indiana, minutes from downtown Louisville over the I-65 bridges, and Kentucky riders buy from us every week. The short version: you buy the unit here, we hand you the paperwork, and you register it with your county clerk in Kentucky.
Every unit below is inspected by our shop and photographed before it is listed. Ask and we will send a walkaround video. Until our Clarksville showroom opens in person on December 1, 2026, we sell online and remote-only, with remote signing and free delivery within 150 miles — which covers Louisville and most of Kentucky.
Browse the units below, then read on for the paperwork details.
Sales tax: paid in Kentucky, not Indiana
When a Kentucky resident buys a vehicle from an out-of-state dealer for registration at home, the sales or usage tax is normally collected by Kentucky when you title and register it — not by us at the sale. That means you should budget for Kentucky's motor vehicle usage tax on top of the purchase price. Your county clerk calculates the exact amount when you register. We do not give tax or legal advice, so confirm your situation with the clerk before you buy if the number matters to your budget.
What paperwork we hand you
At closing — in person later, or by remote signing now — you get:
- The signed-over title (or title paperwork if a lender holds it)
- A bill of sale showing the price, VIN, and both parties
- An odometer disclosure where one applies
- Lien release documentation if the unit had a prior loan
That packet is what the Kentucky county clerk needs to open a new title in your name. Keep copies of everything.
Registering at your Kentucky county clerk
Take the packet to the county clerk where you live. You will typically need proof of Kentucky insurance for anything you plate for the road, like the Harleys and sport bikes in our inventory. The clerk handles title transfer, usage tax, and plates in one visit. Off-road units like dirt bikes and side-by-sides have different title and registration rules in Kentucky, so ask the clerk what applies to your unit and how you plan to use it.
Timelines
Plan to register soon after the sale — Kentucky expects new residents' and new purchases' titles to be handled promptly, and riding on no plate is a problem for anything street-legal. If a lender is involved, title paperwork can take a little longer to move, so ask us for a realistic date at signing.
Financing and trades work across state lines
We arrange financing through local credit unions and banks on both sides of the river, and a soft-pull pre-approval does not touch your credit score. Trade-ins are welcome from Kentucky or Indiana.

Questions riders ask
Do I pay Indiana sales tax if I live in Kentucky?
Typically no. Kentucky collects its motor vehicle usage tax when you title and register the unit at your county clerk. Confirm your exact situation with the clerk, since we do not give tax or legal advice.
What paperwork do I get at the sale?
You get the signed-over title or title paperwork, a bill of sale with the VIN and price, an odometer disclosure where it applies, and lien release documents if needed. That packet is what the Kentucky county clerk needs to register the unit in your name.
Can I do the whole deal without crossing the river?
Yes. Until our Clarksville showroom opens in person on December 1, 2026, we sell online and remote-only with remote signing. We deliver free within 150 miles, which covers Louisville, Jeffersonville, New Albany, Sellersburg and most of Kentucky.
How is the unit's condition verified before I buy?
Every unit is inspected by our shop and photographed before it is listed. We will also shoot a walkaround video on request so you can see the specific unit before you commit.
Can I finance through a Kentucky lender?
Yes. We work with local credit unions and banks on both sides of the river, and our soft-pull pre-approval does not touch your credit score. We never quote payments or rates online, so start with the pre-approval to see real numbers.
Do ATVs and side-by-sides register the same way as motorcycles in Kentucky?
No. Street-legal motorcycles get plated through the county clerk with proof of insurance, while off-road units follow different Kentucky title and registration rules. Your county clerk is the final word on what your specific unit needs.
